Hey all, just a few videos i've been working on in my spare time, were fun to shoot and edit!!

Think your right, could do with some more steady shots! Really after trying to get some 'energy' in to them using the editing and camera techniques. I'm pretty chuffed with how they've turned out but always room for improvement!! I'd like some more car mountable equipment as i think those shots really give an idea of speed!

Well i work as a freelance videographer and have done videos for various websites and TV shows in the past, including some motoring magazines but i wanted to experiment with some different techniques and also see how videos like this are received by fellow petrolheads :-) its all a bit of an experiment really. Not bad, I like the editing and the general shots.
But, it does still just look like raw video footage.
It needs some overall colour correction like a filter overlay and maybe some grain.
Look up some tutorials on Google for getting the film look.
Another option would be to give it the Top Gear graduated filter look.

My 2p - Audio. Some lovely cars there, but all i can hear is the prodigy. I do like how youve cut a lot of sections to the music, but wheres the audio of the cars gone?
Its tricky getting good car audio. Sometimes i've recorded audio separately after the main part of a shoot, so i can get the mic closer.

Ah top suggestion! I have tweaked the colours a little in FCP but certainly not a full grade or anything like as in depth as the Top Gear online boys do! Its an area i'm familiar with but in no way an expert!! I reckon an overall grade could pull the video together.....top tip!It needs some overall colour correction like a filter overlay and maybe some grain .

Your totally correct! The video is crying out for some screaming engines and tyre roar!! However, i shot both vids on my Sony Z1...a very capable camera, however i didnt use a mic at all in the shooting process so all the clips were mute. This wasnt really an accident more a case of me being tight! When i shoot for clients i rent the relevant sound equipment for the job and as this was a bit of an experiment i just didnt bother.
NB: i do actually have the sound from the Audi R8 recorded on a shotgun mic and also the sound from the S3 and S4 but it simply wouldnt edit in properly! Sound has never been my strong point lol

i know, sound is a bit voodoo to me too.I always say to anyone I've trained on camerawork- never record a mute camera (a rule ive broken myself many times, i may add!), as you never know when the on board audio might come in handy. even if its the el cheapo mic that they usually throw in with sony prosumer stuff.
For grading, have you looked at Magic Bullet Looks? its a really decent plug in for final cut, very user friendly. Some of the presets are a little strong / or even cheesey, but its quite a powerful tool. Very quick and easy to layer up a look that youre after. I think they do a free trial
