I bought an SLR a few months back (canon 500d with 18-55 & 55-250mm lens). Went to the Renault world series at silverstone last weekend an took a few snaps (nearly 500!). First time I've shot any motorsport and would like some comments/feedback on the few shots here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/russellranklin/sets/7...

Most of the shots came out blurry but a few came out ok I think. These were all shot as Raw, but when I loaded onto th computer they all looked quite dull, so I've tweaked the colours in Photoshop, but hopefully not overdone it.

I'm off to britcar this weekend so any comments good or bad welcome so I can improve next time. Cheers!

Shoot Jpeg for motorsport it will save lots of time. You don't need to shoot RAW it will slow down your workflow a lot. This is the only time I shoot jpegs as a rule of thumb.

Use TV mode for ease. Or dial in around F8 and 1/125 for panning.

Adjust iso as required.

Start with a fast shutter speed and slow down as required for your background blur.

This is shot at 1/60 - Very slow panning - more background blur - f5.6
