Err, no, it's not a photoshop - it's part of a photo essay by Todd Heisler, taken at a time when the US military were forbidding the mass media from taking shots of servicemen being repatriated - he won a Pullitzer Prize for it. I'll ignore the stupidity of your comment.

They ARE real shots, as I've said - part of a photo essay by the photojournalist Todd Heisler.

Simpo I think you're off beam on this one, I honestly do not believe it's some lefty art project.

We all know war is awful but fortunately many of never come that close to it in our lives. We get our exposure through images taken by folks placing themselves right in there. This project is different in that it is not taken in the front lines but it is still documenting real people with real reactions to the situations this particular war has put them in. Without reportage covering all angles of life where would we be?

Definately one of those hard to believe it wasn't shopped photos, but it must have had a lot of scutiny as he jointly won a Pulizer Prize for it. A bit of Googling on the photojournalist shows he also did 3 stints as an embedded journalist in Iraq and survived being in a Humvee that got totalled by an IED!

If you actually read the article it's documenting the work of the US Marines honour guard. So unless the US Marines are into "arty left-wing st" which I somewhat doubt I think you have the wrong end of the stick.

I would have thought that service personnel killed in action would be repatriated on a military flight to a military airbase, not a civilian one.

I'm not saying the first photo is shopped, but it does depict a scenario I would consider to be outside the norm.

I can remember when these images first came out and the subsequent impact they had, as a result, I am quite frankly shocked that a photography forum is calling them (or at least one of them) fake.

The image can also be seen here on the Todd Heisler web site, along with a hell of a lot of other images taken during the conflict.

Starlifters and C-130's don't fly to every corner of the USA to deliver the bodies of deceased servicemen, sometimes a civvy flight is the only option. It doesn't however mean they are exempt from the respect they deserve.


The last sentence is of course my own personal opinion.
