Bruges

I have just got back from a Birthday break to Bruges. It is probably one of the most beautiful cities I have seen for it's architecture. I love it's Gothic style, Canals, Squares and most of all the beer!!

Here are a few of the shots from the three days I was there. C&C welcome.

This was as a result of getting on the wrong train, going in the wrong direction.

These are not HDR. I was trying something new with my editing and I think it works for these two images but I would be interested to see if you agree.

I climbed the 366 steps of the Belfrey with burning calves and all I found was the bells closed off for maintenance, hording and 'In Bruges' quotes written all over the place. It did make me laugh but the locals must hate it.

Really like no 1. Numbers 5 & 6 a bit too HDR for me (but I'm just like that).

ETA.. IMHO - HUGE watermark would take seconds to remove and only detracts!

Steve, there is no HDR trickery going on in these two. They have been edited in Lightroom. They have had the Clarity and Vibrance boosted, some fill light added, saturation reduced and some tone curve going on. I was conscious that it looked like HDR, well I suppose it sort of is but just using the one exposure.

Ah.. OK... IMHO - too much clarity and vibrance, fill light, and tone curves then. (Tone curves is HDR by another name by the way - does kinda the same thing, but with a single image, boosting the dynamic range).

No 2 & 3 for me. As above 5 & 6 do look like HDR.

Thanks for the comments. I was aware of the HDR look but I thought it suited these two, I have not really gone down the HDR route before and it will not be something that creeps in to all my images, more an experiment to be honest.

ETA.

Here is a second edit of the original images which have a little less saturation and a bit of contrast added. Hopefully they don't tick the DLR box now.

4,5,6 for me are the pick - there's a little bit of a halo round the buildings particularly in 6 which always gives away heavy PP. Nowt wrong with going down the HDR route if done properly btw. HDR does not have to equal DLR

Really nice shots and PP work; the only thing spoiling it for me is the converging verticals; but these can be put right in PP.
