Quick Advice - Lumix DMC TZ8

Looking for a simple, good value, every day camera.

This camera is now available for £166 and seems a good deal.

Any advice on if these are any good??

These are great little camera's, not owned one myself but do have its bigger brother the FZ28.

You realy cant go wrong with a panasonic compact, with the TZ range being particulalry good, pocketable 12x (i think) zoom giving the equvilent of something like a 28-320mm focal range. And its a leica lens (sort of )

Go for it, the only better super zoom compact is the TZ10, but that is still quite new and expensive.

Very good camera an VFM. You'll be pleased with it.

I've got one and think it's a great camera, the optical zoom is good as you don't get the image degredation that you do with digital zooming. The microphone is ste for loud video recording but it's a photo camera primarily so that doesn't bother me too much.

Just another quick one, how does the TZ10 compare to this one. The TZ10 is £188 for comparison.

I'm pretty certain that came out after the TZ8 as I got the best one there was at the time so in theory it will be better and for 20 quid more it seems silly not to. Have a of reviews for both and compare specs. I'm sure either would be good. I've also got an SLR and take the compact when I want a decent camera without the fuss of an SLR

I've heard that they both great cameras, but if you use the GPS on the 10, the battery wont last long.

So it's £198 inc postage plus it's an US import so no UK warranty. That's why it's so cheap.

I was looking at these (TZ8) myself for christmas, seems like the best compact sub £200 at the moment, TZ10 has GPS, slightly larger rear screen (3.0" vs 2.7") and can record video for longer (30 mins +) but to be honest none of those really affect the camera enough to warrant the £50 or so extra in my eyes.

Seems like a great buy, I will be getting one...let's see what they do price wise closer to/after Xmas

I wish they would make these cameras with a viewfinder.I have an old Nikon coolpix 700 and in bright sunshine the LCD is unviewable. Do these newer camera's cope better with reflections and bright sun?

I am looking for something like this as well and have short-listed three;

1) Panasonic Lumix TZ10 - (12.1MP, 12x Optical Zoom) 3.0 inch LCD (£207)
2) Sony DSCH55B Cyber-shot - (14.1MP, 10x Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD (£174.70)
3) Canon PowerShot SX210 IS - (14.1 MP, 14x Optical Zoom) 3.0 Inch PureColor LCD (£194.80)

All seem to be quite similar, is there one to particularly recommended?

I have a TZ10 and I love it. It is so much better than my old TZ7. The picture qulity for a compct is great. The video quality is brilliant, better than my proper video camera. Though put it in motion jpeg mode to save lots of hassles when viewing the video back on your computer. The gps is a bit of a gimmick, but I like the way it automatically shows the location of my photos on google maps on my iPhone.

Right'o rather than start a new topic which some people seem to get arsey about I will tag onto this one. I'm looking at getting a new compact camera for my wife and having read all the threads on here lots of people seem to recommend either the Panasonic Lumix TZ8 or TZ10.

However I see from on Panasonic's web site there is a newer model the Lumix ZX3 http://tinyurl.com/3xfdbfz
which has 14x optical zoom and simply on the basis it's a newer model I guess will have newer features. Anyone got any experience of it and can comment one way or the other?

Oops yeah, sorry! I was getting my pixels confused with my zooming. Anyway I didn't realise this was below the TZ range in which case I might go for the TZ8, I don't think she'll see any need for the GPS tagging. Pictures will be horticultural and new grandson!

Any responses to this? I am in a sort of similar conondrum, looking for a camera for my parents, needs to be robust, simple to use and not too small (dad has big fingers).
