Thomas Crown Affair-style split screen?

Could anybody point me in the right direction for a video editor, that can do this type of effect?

I have had a look around, but not knowing what the effect is called is my main problem.

You just want an editor that can use masks.
I'm not sure if Premiere would do all that but After Effects definitely would.

It looks like After Effects might be able to do it.

But I'm not running a 64bit os so I cant use it.

Was a bit surprised to see that After Effects CS5 is 64bit-only now, but with the amount of memory you can end up using its easy to see the justification

Could always go back to CS4.

If you have Windows DVD maker it can do that sort of split screen effect.
