Camera cleaning

Hi guys. I was out in the garden doing my 365 project today when I noticed more specs when looking through my viewfinder. I think they are all on the actual view finder part inside the camera but Im too scared to go poking around in there my self. It doesn't effect the photos at all, but its just a bit off putting when looking through the viewfinder. Also beyond that looks a bit dusy and looks like a bit of house keeping is needed (mirror especiall), still non of this shows up on my pictures.

Would you suggest I leave it until I see something on my photos, or take it somewhere to be cleaned professionaly. The only two camera shops I know of in Lincoln, is London Camera Exchange and Jessops. Who would you recommend?

The camera is a Pentax K10D if that makes any odds.

Rule 1. Don't let any high street shop Muppet anywhere near your camera! Calumet maybe!

Take your lens off point the open lens mount downward and blow away. Make sure your camera is switched off. Job done!

Another vote for the Rocket Blower from me.

Jim fully agree with Ian and Jez, follow Ian's instructions it is quite easy but need to be a little careful. I've cleaned mine a number of times including the chip with only the Rocket blower. If you are still uncertain take it to LCE they are good guys who, if you ask, will sell you a Rocket and show you how to use it. Avoid the Lincoln Jessop's muppets at all cost!

The K10 has a mode to hold the reflex lens up and out of the way whilst you clean the sensor - a nice can of compressed air also works well...

Used this on my K100 a couple of times.

Sorry to critique but don't use cans of compressed air. The propellant can leave a residue, especially if shaken or tipped. Not a problem on lenses - a nightmare on the reflex mirror or even worse the sensor. Don't do it!

Another user of the Giottos rocket blower, also a Hama lens pen with the fluffy brush on the end to get rid of stuck-on specs

Having just now tried my new "pinhole-in-a-body-cap" lens, I can see I have a lot of tiny dust specks to remove

Thanks for the replies chaps, I will try one of them blowers. I don't mind trying a dry clean but something with chemicals I will leave well alone.

Keep physical contact to a minimum, the more you cen get off with a blower the better, only use a brush/ microfibre cloth when you absolutely have to. Blowers have got quite some puff and you can shift a fair bit of dirt with them

Thanks for the advice chaps. Got one of them rocket blowers and it removed every last piece. Very happy!
