Print to Canvas?

On my dining room wall is a 12"x8" print of my family. I don't have the file, just the print that was taken by a professional photographer.

Is there any way this can be copied onto a canvas? My dear wife has decided she would like it on a canvas when we redecorate.

You might get good enough result from a good quality scanning but obviously there's an ethical issue here. Can you not contact the photographer or are you trying to do a cheap?

Not only an ethical issue, but a legal one - unless you have the copyright assigned to you or a licence to make copies from the photographer then you will be breaking the law by copying the print. Get in touch with the photographer and push him for a good price on a canvas.

I'm not trying to 'do' anyone. The photographer is a little one man band in Northern Ireland, we live in Devon. Just a lot less hassle to do it ourselves.

Copyright wouldn't really be a problem, the photographer may well send me the image if we ask him. Seems that's the way to go.

If you contact the photographer i'm sure he'll send you the digital file, perhaps for a fee.

Just because he's a one man band doesn't mean you should ignore the fact the image will be his copyright, in fact if anything its more important as it may well be how he makes a living! Not having a dig at you Tyre Smoke, or suggesting in anyway this is your attitude, but working in a photo lab i get really irked by many peoples reaction to being told there image is subject to copyright and they're not allowed to copy it.

That's the decision made then. I really wouldn't want to upset the bloke or do him out of his living. We'll give him a ring on Monday.
