Camera remote. Canon 400d

Wanting to get a remote for my camera after looking around ebay here

I was thinking that they seem a bit cheap and not good quality.
Can anyone recomend any good ones.

These are the offical canon remotes. although the RC-1 is discontinued.

I've got them both and been happy with both of them. (Had to buy the newer one as the Rc-1 doesn't work with newer Canon cameras.

What benifits do cable or wireless units give?
Read that wirless units you need to be in front of camera and wondering how that would affect slow shutter shots.

The Canon IR one wasn't a lot of good IME, had to be in front of the camera and limited range.

The wired one was a lot better, if you need wireless go for a set of RF602s which will also double up as off camera flash triggers if ever you go down that route, they're cheap as chips and a long range (up to 100m IIRC).

I've got the 5D version (bought when I had my 50D) and it works quite well - just got to find a time lapse subject worth shooting!

Sunset over a valley in S.France is pretty good Sitting on the balcony with a beer hearing the shutter every 2 seconds.

Sounds great, but difficult to focus on that subject from near Worthing

From what i have been reading this was the better option. Now ordered.

Same here for my 400D. Only problem with it is the user* ;-)

• Last night I set it up for doing star trails, wanted 2-minute exposure but due to brain-fade managed to set it to do 2-hour exposures. Whoops ....

I've got both an infrared one and cabled. This is pretty close to the cabled one I have:

Infrared - you have to have your hand in front of the camera to take the picture, which can be good and bad. (Group shots are good, just got to hide it in your hand).

Cabled is better for general stuff though, simply because you can be behind the camera.

Quality - hmmm, kinda overrated on these items (even the cheap grips). They are all cheap, just that the badged stuff is branded and costs more.

RF-602 here, on the 450D too. So far they have been very good . The only thing I have thought could be better so far was the ability to fire the shutter and flash at once via the remote. It can be done with two sets however, I just didnt want to buy more

You do need to buy an additional lead for £5 to operate the shutter too

I bought an infrared remote release for my 400D from 7dayshop.com for £4.99 . Works fine and has instant and 2 second delay release buttons. Like all infrared releases I do have to be in front of the camera.
