Anyone know where's good to attempt to trade my Nikon d90 body for a Canon 550d? I've thought about simply selling and buying a new 550d from digital rev, but I've been getting bored with low ball offers to be honest. There's nothing at all wrong with the D90 it's mint condition, I simply want a smaller body as my one and only DSLR, rather than having a big DSLR and a compact to take out and about with me (I'll flog my GF-1 also and get some nice glass for the 550d). The 550d fits the bill in that it's quite a bit smaller and more luggable. At present I only use the D90 indoors as it's a bit of a ball ache to lug about on family days out!
On TP - I have about 1 post so I don't meet the eligibility requirements. Here there's only a for sale section- no trades. Ebay is a no go as I hate the place with a passion. D90 is mint, bought in Oct/Nov last year but unboxed. All other accessories there and I have a 35 mm AF-S and 50 mm AF-D lens to go with it.

If you're looking to do a straight swap of a D90 for a 550D with a private individual I think you'll struggle. If it has to be a trade, then doing it with a dealer will be your best bet, but you will get a relatively poor deal. If you want to get the most money out of the deal then you should sell your Nikon privately and buy the Canon separately.
If you won't use eBay, then forums like Talk Photography and Nikonians are probably the next best place. You could also try the classifieds on here and Gumtree.
I'd question whether changing cameras is going to do what you want though. Looking at the specs., your Nikon is only slightly heavier and larger than a 550D, plus when you take lenses into account, the difference becomes proportionally even smaller.

+1 If its too much hassle to lug the D90 around go buy a decent point & shoot ?
I also think it's really a hiding to nothing. I've run an SLR + compact system for decades, both film and digital. It goes like this: If photography is going to be a significant part of the trip (ie I want to take decent photos) then I take the (D)SLR. If I just want snaps for record I take the compact.

Yeah there's the 3100, but again - unless I swap with someone I'm having to go down the route of shelling out a lot of money to downgrade/cross migrate. Was kind of hoping there was someone in ind of the same boat as me in the Canon camp, ie wants a bigger body with the same image quality.

It's an odd place isn't it? I'm after a 35mm 1.8 AF-s at the moment but not in a rush so keeping my eyes peeled for a bargain on ebay. Bearing in mind that these are £160 brand new in Jessops, it's quite baffling watching used ones sell for £150 + postage on ebay.
