Panasonic Lumix FZ45

I hope I am in the right place - I am in the market for a new camera, as I know very little about cameras or photography, I have been reading reviews etc. It seems Panasonic Lumix models come out as highly recomemded. However, could one of you please explain the difference, in basic terms, between a camera like this:

Both are a similar price, but look very different.

I've been looking at these two myself and from what I can see the only major difference is the length of zoom of the FZ45 and the fact it can shoot in Raw format. If you can live with the lesser zoom of the TZ18 I'd get that seeing it's a much more convenient shape and size for simple point and shoot photography

TZ18 can be put inside a jacket pocket.
FZ45 has to be hung on your shoulder.

My TZ goes with me EVERYWHERE!
