Need a wider f1.4 prime for Canon 7D

I bought my 7D with a 15-85 USM and also a 50mm 1.4 prime lens for indoor use avoiding flash.

Although i was blown away by the low light ability of the 50mm 1.4 it's narrow angle means I can never fit enough in the frame.

Any recommendations for something wider at 1.4 ?

If it has to be f1.4 and autofocus, the only ones are the Canon 24mm and 35mm (both >£1000) and the Sigma 30mm (about £400).

Not f1.4 but still fast - Canon 28mm f1.8 - currently £374.99

Certainly is a massive price hike from the regular f1.8 at £374 to the 'L' 24mm f1.4 at around £1300. Question is - would I miss the extra stop I've got used to with my existing f1.4 ? And would an L lens be worth the difference ?

My 30mm 1.4 sigma has been very very impressive and consequently spends a lot of time on the camera.

I took a lot of care to buy from a shop when I got it for my 30D so I check it for front/back focus problems which was the only known issue with them... but these days with a 7D I just micro adjust each lens anyway which makes that fault a non-event.

For the money it's a lovely lens which is very sharp (although that focus DoF is pretty unforgiving at 1.4!).

Good point re unforgiving dof at 1.4. I've got a few close up portraits where one eye is in focus and the other isn't !

Might see what price I can exchange my 50mm for

TBH I don't normally use my 50mm past f2 unless its very dark - just not sharp enough. At f2 it's a cracker though

Is an f1.4 50mm going to give the same results as an f1.8 50mm if you shoot at F2?

Just about
It'll be sharper and a have slightly different 'look' to the out-of-focus areas due to the difference in the number of blades in the apertures.

Not much to choose between them IQ-wise at f2

Interesting, thanks FPC. To be honest I haven't made much use of my f1.8 50mm due to finding it tricky to focus properly but that was fully open, so maybe I will stop down a touch and have another go

Theres a rumour sigma are going to make something 24/35L comparative, they've done good business with the 50/85 1/4's.
