Urgent! Settings for pics of steam train!

Popping down to my local station in a mo as a steam train is coming through - settings?

Bright day so thinking low ISO, fast shutter for movement. Using my 18-70 as I'll likely be standing on the end of the platform.

Anything I've missed?

Depends if you want to catch it frozen or with an element of movement, if it was me I would shoot for some movement as the train pulls away but a lot will depend on where you can stand.

Fast shutter won't give movement - it will make it appear stationary like this;

but a longer shutter speed will have lots of fuzzy steam with no clarity. the train won't be going fast enough to have movement itself.

Low ISO for best quality but as for shutter speed I would just leave aperture set wide open (for fastest speed) or about F8 if you want best quality. The wheels wont be turning that fast so even a modest shutter speed will freeze them.

Of course if you want a blurry effect you'll need to slow the shutter speed right down but then you risk not getting the shot you want.

I tend to stick with high shutter speeds with trains but thats a personal preference.
