Newbie here!

Hi all, I have had a fleeting interest in photography for a little while, used to take quite a few pictures with a point n shoot, but I have decided to buy something a little more useful.

I have picked up A Canon EOS 20D with 18-55mm Kit lens for the grand sum of £200, I know this model is a little outdated now, but from what I have seen it should still be capable of taking decent pictures.

I have done a little research, and have noticed how frequently the Canon 50mm prime lens is recommended, so that is at the top of my shopping list now.

Basically i was after some beginners pointers , what usually ruins an otherwise decent photo etc.

Also beginners DSLR essentials (tripod/bag/spare batteries?) Already have 4gb and 1gb memory card.

Any help is appreciated!

tripods are always good to have but depends on what you like taking pics of.

i felt a bigger memory card was essential so i've got an 8gb and a 16gb

my next purchase is a flash now

i also went out and bought a cheap macro lens - just to get a feel of what can be done - i'd advise looking up a local photography club and going over - you'll be able to see what other ppl have and maybe have a go on their stuff seeing whats good and whats not for you.
