Which camera and software for around £250?

Afternoon PH,

I have a budget of around £250 and im looking for a camera and photo editing software. Im not going to lie but im a complete noob when it comes to camera editing but it has always been an interest of mine.

Im always snapping photos with my iphone ( not the best camera i admit ) and then editing them using the apps like coloursplash and tiltshift.

But now i feel is the time to purchase a 'proper' camera and im open to ideas as to which one to get? I would prefer it to support HD so i can play them back on my HDTV and supports SD cards or some form of memory input. I was taking a look at this site -

Photo editing software - the most obvious one is MS photoshop but are their any good freebie programs out there? Or any good iphone apps as i could transfer the photos from my new camera to the iphone to edit them and then transfer them back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

http://www.gimp.org/ will do 90% that photoshop will.

How about Photoshop Elements 6 (about £15 on Amazon), Scott Kelby's book on how to use it (probably about £25, or your library may be able to get it), then a used Canon 10D or 20D may be possible for £200 - but make sure it has a lens and a warranty. You're also going to need a card, battery and charger, which may or may not come with a used camera, plus a bag to carry it all about in. If you're planning to go for a dSLR, £250 may be a bit of a struggle.
