New lens shortages?

I'm currently waiting on a Canon 24-70mm 2.8L from a well known internet retailer, and I've currently been waiting for almost a month since I placed my order. Apparently the Tsunami has completely knackered Canon's production schedule so said retailer has no idea when they're likely to get stock in.

Anyone else finding the same problem? I know that the 24-70 is an in-demand lens anyway, but I'm getting bloody bored of waiting for it...

From memory, Utsunomiya is one of, if not the main EF lens plant and Fukushima will be out of action for obvious reasons.

Waltersphotovideo - a main UK Canon dealer, with 5 branches in S West have little Canon kit in stock
Normally they have most lenses and bodies for immediate sale.
Talking to the salesman yesterday he said it would probably be a month B4 they have another delivery.

Jessops are getting deliveries every fortnight, but they say that the big problem is that they've no idea what will be turning up, so can't offer any sort of idea of when stock will be in. Unusually they did encourage me to find one through another source, presumably because they're keen to reduce their own waiting lists. The trouble is that I'm using their interest free credit system (why not - I may only earn pennies on the money while it sits in my bank for 12 months, but they'll be my pennies!) and I've signed all the paperwork.

I've been waiting for a quite specialised lens, the EF 8-15mm f4L fisheye for two months now.

The Hong Kong shops were stacked to the rafters a couple of weeks ago. They did say they were awaiting shipping on top end stuff and had no forecast. In contrast New Zealand had virtually no SLR stock. The only lens that I saw anywhere was the Nikon 55-200 VR. That was it!

Seems stock in the UK is also drying up too.Nikon and Canon must be loosing millions.

Ordered a 70-200mm L from a well known UK seller recently. Turned up in 5 days including the time to transfer the money.

Not quite true: with the rise in the value of the Yen relative to the GBP (I arrived here at Y206/GBP, it got to Y121/GBP and today is around 135ish) then they aren't making money out of UK sales anyway...
