Has anyone replaced their fuel filler cap with a locking one or even taken apart the inside of their old one to accomodate a locking one beneath to use the existing one as a cover?

I'd like to do this and wondered if anyone had been there before me?

IIRC someone has come up with an arrangement involving a pin inserted into the catch from inside the boot to effectively lock the cap.

I'm sure someone will be along soon with more details and a link.

Richard - it was a suggestion made in Steve Heath's book...

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. Been thinking along the lines of taking the gubbins out the flap to accomodate a locking cap beneath but not sure if this is possible ....would probably find there's not enough room to clip the chrome cover back over.

Would be nice to lock it somehow as some little sod is likely to come along one day and tip something in.

This just suddenly made me think is it a legal requirment to have a locking fuel filler cap?

mine passed it's MOT ok without but I just suddenly thought I had heard that somewhere.
