rust in the fuel!

My S1 had been laid up for 4 years before I bought it. Early on during the 'restoration' I took the fuel tank out, cleaned it and made a new cradle. I thought I had got it pretty clean but in a matter of months I found the new fuel pump clogged with rust. I've cleaned it a couple of times since in the hope the rust would gradually disappear but no such luck. Coming back from Chatsworth it felt like it was suffering from fuel starvation again. I am about to drain the tank and fit a new fuel sender. While I am about it does anybody have any bright ideas that might help me deal with the rust, preferably without taking the tank out again!

I've been there.
I think that the best option is to coat the inside of your tank with POR 15 Fuel tank repair kit. This is effective and much cheaper than a new tank. You will, however, need to take teh tank out to do it.

i did the tank repair using the por15 repair kit and saved me the cost of a new tank
i think i did this over 5 years ago and still no rust or leaks
