Unidentified Bit

Have stripped a couple of cars etc I thuht I knew what everything was!!!!

But I have this bit in one of my box's of 'useful' bits.



Can anyone tell me what it is please

Door lock case ? (well, that's what my Ford part list bible tells me !).

It looks like a door/boot lock striker plate to me.

I'd go with the fixed part of a latch, too. I think door striker plates usually have a buffer that mates with the body of the latch when the door is closed to support the door vertically. Since this doesn't have that, I think it is more likely to be the striker for a boot latch.

Looks nothing like my door or boot latches but I'll also go with earlier type boot catch ?

It must have done, the previous Ford i drove was a Granada about 30 years ago and I certainly didnt have nor keep any bits from it

My S3 has a simple pin bolted through a bracket at the side

my bonnet doesn't have those springs..? I guess the stop rattles and pop it open when the release is pulled?

It does however look very similar to the boot catch on my 2007 Jag X Type. I can't quite see the mounting screws on this since they're covered by a plastic fairing that seems to have too many screws to make it a 5 minute job to take it off
