red paint match

Has anyone bought touch up paint which is a good match for P420/KV52. I have searched the forums and checked the FAQs and I have had some excellent advice from Topton on the Wedges forum (We assume TVR will have used exactly the same colour for code KV52 on his 400SE as they did on my S2). He tells me that after much investigation he eventually had to send his fuelcap to Autopaints to get a good match. As there is nothing small enough to post on the S2 I propose to use a tank cutter to remove a disc from behind the front number plate to send as a sample. (Topton very kindly offered to lend me his fuelcap to use as a sample but I really don’t want to put him to the trouble or to risk the responsibility if it got lost or damaged in the post etc).
But before I start cutting bits off my car I thought it a good idea to have a last check with the accumulated wisdom on here in case someone has found a source for KV52, which actually matches the TVR paint, without having to send a sample. (I am in the process of Tcutting the existing paint so I hope fading will not be too much of an issue). Any advice will be very gratefully received.

I used these people when I could find no one to match my 'starfire blue metallic'. They seemed to have all the TVR paint codes and a very quick service.

I recently brought a touch up stick TVR Red KV52 from Surface Design Unit 14 TVR Business Park Bristol Ave Blackpool 01253 595800. Email [e-mail]. The cost including postage and Vodka & Tonic was £17.63.
I have found it be be a perfect match.

If you remove a door card can you get a bit from there?

I'd be concerned about water getting in if you cut a hole behind the numberplate.
There is also a security issue doing this

S2Andy. Thank you. Autopaintsbrighton was the company Topton used, I spoke to them on the phone. They recognised the number and said that they could match it but to be absolutely certain of a perfect match I should send a sample.

Wizzer. Thank you. if surface design managed to get a perfect match to KV52 first time without a sample I will give them a try first.

Barkychoc, Thank you, My thought was that cutting a 1 1/2" dia hole behind the front numberplate would not allow any more water in than would be coming through the grill anyway and from a security point of view if someone took the numberplate off they would only have access to the front of the radiator and couldnt get to bonnet catches etc, but I had not thought of getting a piece from behind the door card. I'll give that a go if I have to take a sample, though hopefully if Surface Design can match the car from the number I will not need to.

Or there's a guy on Ebay, "scuffsandchipspro" sells very small pots of touch up paint, I've just bought some Brooklands Racing Green but only arrived yesterday so not tried it yet for match

Thanks Phillpot. did you order it by TVR Number or description? It will be interesting to hear how good a match it is.
