Hi All,
Just got the diff back in and was wanting to know, should the diff be central in the tunnel or is it off to one side as mine is, I have about 1 1/2 " offset to the drivers side.
I have the right mounting frame and it bolts into the bold holes, just not expecting it to be offset.

Hi Alan
yes the input drive flange is offset to the drivers side - it is offset in the diff - the drive shaft lengths are to be the same lengths though.
It is the drive pinion to crown wheel that gives the offset - not symetrical about centre line.
I believe there is an optimum offset angle for u/js to work best.

Hi Mick
Thanks for that, going down tomorrow to re fit all the rear suspension and trailing arms, will take both drive shafts and see which fits, with my luck TVR had the shafts made in an odd size, I have 2 wd Cosworth drive hafts with 108mm flanges so if push comes to shove there is a place down the road who make drive shafts to order.

If you get them made for you, make sure they use a forged shoulder to retain the CV instead of the inner retaining circlip groove, and I suggest you don't let them drop the diameter down (as they will probably advise you to) because in my experience that exacerbates tramping problems.

Hi Peter,
I did read something about not using a inner circlip on the 2 wd cosworths, I have the 2 wd shafts and think they are the longer heavy duty type, there was a shorter Sierra type and it could be they have used 2 of the shorter ones looking at Mick's picture, this is my second cock up, so hope every thing fits back after I sort this out.

Hi All,
Info, the drive flanges are 445 inside to inside on my rear end, the smaller of the Cosworth drive shafts fit, guess I just need another short side drive shaft.
I guess the reason for the diff offset was to be able to use 2 short shafts, if the diff was central in the chassis they would have had to use special manufactured shafts or widen the track, I have found that the Subaru has the same lobro joints and some of the BMW also have the same

All in all one thing more to sort out before I can continue with the rebuild

I'm afraid I have lost track of which parts of your setup are standard. If you have 108mm drive flanges presumably you've got different hubs (which might explain that funny white thing on the left of the picture), have you fitted a different diff too? The original diff would have used 100mm lobros I think, in which case you'd need a hybrid half shaft anyway, wouldn't you?Info, the drive flanges are 445 inside to inside on my rear end, the smaller of the Cosworth drive shafts fit, guess I just need another short side drive shaft.

Hi Peter,
The funny think on the left is the knock-on wheel adaptor, I think I have lost track which is not what I wanted to do, I think I have it sorted out as of now so hopefully I should start to rebuild everything up over the next 2 weeks, if I don't forget anything like brackets for pipes I can pull it all down and send it out to the powder coaters.
Yes I have the Cosworth 2 wd diff with a LSD.
