S Club 2012

I won't be able to commit any significant time to this but if someone else wishes to take the lead I have a friend who organises a number of Steam Engine Rallies in and around the Midlands, I discussed with him the possibility of S Club joining up with them before the current team got involved and the response was very positive.

One of the events he organises is in the grounds of Stanford Hall (there are two Stanford Halls in Leicestershire, its the one on the A6006, the lesser known one) and there are some fantastic driving roads around there for a hoon.

They are weekend events with camping and I know they have a bit of a party on the saturday night.

If its of interest to anyone I'll put you in touch with my mate Dave Hoyles or just google his name you'll find him.

I suppose the first question is whether people would mind / like a change of venue? I might also be able to provide a venue in Sheffield linked to another show. Not quite so central to England but might help the Scottish contingent out a bit.

I'm happy to play a role in organising SCH 2012, but like everyone else, don't want to do it on my own.

So.. two questions;

1)How do people feel about a different venue (any other suggestions?)

2) Who else is prepared to help an event we all know and love?

Different venues are fine. The main issues perhaps being fairly central, good road links, good parking for an unpredictable number, maybe something near of interest for thos who may not be so interested in cars.

Also, camping and budget hotels within a reasonable distance (need not be on site, but good if possible).

Guess I've been a bit spoilt, now a veteran of 3 SCH's and all within an hour of home so certainly no objection here if I had to travel a bit further next year.
And while its nice to have our own "little thing", tacking onto a n other show would be worth a try imho

All I will say to this is I tried it and it is very difficult to get the organisers of the main event to provide sufficient credence to SCH unless the event is very small in which case why not just do your own thing and not be restructed to dates, they were also very expensive to join in with.

Also the general concensus was to avoid bank holidays but by definition most large car show events are on BH weekeds to maximise attendance.

with regards to location if I do organise again next year it will move the only reasons for Weston Park last year was there was no other camping in the area and this year was because it proved to be a good venue last year for the camping with a scenic backdrop and was close to RAF Shawbury for the track day which was to be the main part of SCH until the insurance stopped it.

When someone volunteers to lead for next year I'll pass all my experiences across

I think a stand-alone event like we have had for the last three years at another venue would be great (with all of Dave's caveats) but if it was tagged onto another event I would be OK with that too, depending on the event of course...
not sure about a steam rally though Chris... all those old bearded blokes with oily fingernails having a shindig and getting drunk... hang on Hmmm...
certainly the Newark Kit Car show which is held near enough the same time was a great event for SCH2008 and had an autojumble and trade stands which I thought was good.
Not sure about Miss KitCar though...

Unless something totally daft is arranged, I'll be there whatever...

i think it brings us all together
must have camping ,makes it better
no camping would still come would have to find camping close

Not too worried about location aslong as it is not the far flung corners of the UK but wholeheartedly agree with Tink's camping comments above.

What was good about a venue like Weston was we were not on a generic campsite and could therefore set up as we liked, make noise until we liked and the only people we were waking at 7.15am by starting the cars (Dave ) were our own group!

Making lot’s of noise, bonfires, revving engines at 7.15am? If this lot gets out we’ll never be allowed anywhere! The bonfire was good wasn’t it? We’ve got to do that again. No one's mentioned setting off the car alarms when the convoy roared out of the Pondorosa car park

I did laugh a tad at the alarm going off it was a good run out too. A lot of people did mention losing traction big style on a suspect diesel spillage and yes I found it too, a bit scary !!!!
