MT75 'box

I've got mine fitted - only need to sort out the clutch actuation as I do not have a slave cylinder as yet

I have just made a quickshift for it, but the final length of the stick will be determined once the body is back on

How do you find the MT75? Doesn't it have longer ratios than the Type 9, so it's not as crisp on the acceleration, or is that incorrect? It's just Nick is thinking of a 24valve conversion, and by all accounts the MT75 upgrade is necessary to cope with the 200+bhp the 24 valve kicks out.

mine has a 24v Cossy - still building it so don't know how the different gear ratios will affect the driving - Also the 4.27:1 diff may make 1st redundant except for competition starts!!

mind you I have never driven an S yet so not much to compare with

Interesting you mention the 24 valve, Nick's mind is now straying onto this conversion. One of his tutors has told him that the MT75 was only used on the XR4x4, so the innards must be modified to 2 wheel drive, otherwise the viscous diff inside the gearbox overheats and explodes? Is this true?

Yes - you need to build a hybrid 'box (or buy one! - usually about £300 - £350))

v6 one from a 4x4 (sierra or granada) with the rear end of a 2ltr rear wheel drive

There is a feature about it in a copy of PPC mag

If I can find it I may be able to copy and post(or even scan and send)

I'm only up in Teesside if you fancy poping up one evening

It would be good if we can arrange for someone with a converted car for us to view - anyone know of one within say 100 miles as I don't mind picking people up and going to see one

OOoopps wrong post - my MT75 is in and working - it is the engine ancilliaries I'm interested in seeing.

My previous car was a westfield with the MT75 box in it and although I can't vouch for it's strength it was bloody heavy and the first gear was too low just like the type 9.

There is a cure for the type 9, Conversion kit from B G H Geartech, raises first gear and makes pulling away far better.

May well be that they can do something for the MT box ?
