Getting hard to engage gears when running, reverse has to be engaged with the engine off.Had this problem with a couple of old Fords I've had. Goes in every gear easily when not running. I think it's the plastic self adjuster on top of the clutch pedal,it clicks then seems to lose the clutch pedal. My question is what car does the self adjuster come from ?? Granada ?? Not stuck my head under the dash yet,I presume my S2 has the adjuster on top of the clutch pedal ??
Thanks

Don't think so ? scratchchin

Unless you're going back a long way i suspect your "old Fords" were cable operated clutch? S's use a TVR concocted hydraulic system. Might be leaking fluid ?

My S2 had a hydraulic clutch. Have you really got a cable operated clutch, or have you just assumed that?

A cable operated clutch would be a real work of art on an S-series! (and those Ford cable self-adjusters were terrible too). Check the clutch fluid reservoir.

Note to self... Don't assume anything !
Not had a chance to look at anything, just seemed very similar to a problem I had on an old Ford I had.Presumed as the S2 used the Ford engine etc it would use the same pedal box arrangement.
OK,help... Losing clutch pedal...
First thing to check clutch hydraulic master cylinder ??

Need to check both the master cylinder and the slave cylinder, which is attached to the side of the gearbox. If it's the slave cylinder, there will definately be a fluid leak and hence lost fluid in the reservoir and obvious fluid on the slave cylinder, particularly if you remove the rubber cover.

On the master, it can possibly leak past the seals even without losing fluid. First job to see if there is any fluid in the reservoir, top up if not, you might get improved clutch performance even without bleeding it out.

Hope that makes sense, if not come back to me!

When I get a minute I will have a look.Worst case scenario I will replace the master and slave cylinders, you can bet if I replace one or the other the other one will go soon.
What parts bin did they steal them from ??
Hopefully Ford parts.. I have a contact that can get me Ford parts cheap...
Cheers.

Check the carpet in the drivers footwell, fluid can get onto it and is a sign that the master cylinder is leaking yes
