well a simple comparison on PH classifieds shows this:
Cheapeast S = £2950 for an S3 with 80k
Cheapest V8S = £6995 with 50k
Cheapest Chim (not including CatC and D's) = £5995 for a 4.0HC with 100k
So I guess the real question (assuming money is no object) should be do you think you get double the perfomance/looks from a Chim over an S1/2/3? (I think probably not)
As for the V8S it is a much rarer beast and I think an extra £1000 for a V8 with half the mileage makes it still look like a bargain compared to the Chim.
Personally I love the looks of the Chim but it was simply out of my budget - if i'd had the money who knows there are a lot of cars you can buy for £6k+

It doesn't just come down to "what's best for the same money". Price is a factor, sure, but there's far more to it than that.
I have an S and a Cerbera. The Cerbera is much faster. Unbelievably fast. It's more comfortable. It's more expensive than an S to buy, and more expensive to maintain (I've had one bill that was more than the price of buying another S). It's an absolutely brilliant car though.
On a nice day though, when you fancy a "brisk" drive on a twisty road in a car that feels like it's glued to the road and handles like a cat on rails, the Cerbera comes nowhere close to the S. The S is slower (on the straight bits) but the sheer joy of driving such a direct, go-kart like car is hard to beat.
The S is one of the most beautiful cars TVR ever made, it's a superb driver's car (whatever speed you're doing), and it sounds just superb. Unless outright speed is your thing, I'd say you'd be hard pushed, at just about any price, to get more than that from any other TVR.
Don't give the impression that the S is "the poor man's TVR". It's a bloody good car in its own right!
