Standard Roof Stays

Hi Chaps,

Does anyone have any experience of stripping and polishing the standard roof stays to good effect?

I installed Chimaera ones in my last S, so have a spare pair of the black ones. I'd rather go this route than start drilling holes again.

I managed to fit the Chimaera ones to the existing holes without any drilling. Was I just lucky?

I think so, I had to drill mine.

Aren't they just mild steel under that paint? bit of laquer or something would be needed if polishing?

When I fitted mine I checked a lot of measurements and came to the conclusion that the stay itself is near as damn it same length, its the mounting brackets that differ. I elongated the mounting holes by about half a hole, in effect this shortens the whole assembly. Some washers a little larger than standard but not as big as "penny" washers hide everything.

That was about a year ago, and while the hood don't go up very often, all seems fine. the stays "click" with no excessive force required.
