Just bought my first TVR and would like a little info/help – what temp should cooling fan kick-in as it can run hot in slow/stationary traffic but can’t hear fan even when gauge touching red. Source for a throttle cable, new one fitted but too long, clutch seems heavy – given that it’s hydraulic – or is this the norm? More questions/advice will be need in the future.
Cheers
Nigel

Mine kicks it at just above 90degs. Might be worth fitting an override switch with warning light as described in the Steve Heath bible. This has proved useful when in slow traffic etc.

The fan is switched on by an otter switch, usually in the top hose but on the radiator itself on some cars. The otter switch should close when the engine is hot. You can simulate this by pulling one of the wires off and shorting it against the other wire. With the ignition on, the fans should then run. If not, you need to check for a blown fuse or dodgy relay. It's worth making sure the fan works properly before you suffer overheating damage.

Agree with above, if the fan doesn't run the usual culprits are the connector just under the steering rack at the front, the otter switch itself (from a fiesta Mk2 - available on ebay at under £10 - should switch around 90 degC and have an M22/1.5 thread) or the wires under the front cross member (they rub and wear through - blowing the fuse). If none of the above (plus usual fuse check shows any issues) then run a wire straight to the fan from the battery (with inline fuse) and earth the other side to checkj motor is not caput before going any further.

For your questions use the wikis at the top and useful links have lots of links to owners sites etc where many questions are answered, for example mine www.gbsportscar.com or Pies's site www.tvrsseries.com or Andrew's www.tvrgit.com
just try them and you'll find at least one of us will have seen your issue before

Clutch may well feel heavy, just depends what you're used to driving, you want to try the cable operated clutch on my Taimar if you think an S is bad. Definately not a car to get stuck in a stop start traffic jam in!

Throttle cable is RHD manual Granada I think, LHD is shorter so not sure where your long one came from?
No longer available from Ford and I've had no luck finding a "copy" from Quinton Hazell or similar at motorfactors.

I picked up one from an auto Granny on Ebay for couple of quid, bit different but reckon will do as a "get me home" at least
