I've just recieved a call from the garage and it appears I need two new sterring universal joints.

Does anyone know what type they are and part numbers.
The garage don't seem to be able to match them.

Thanks Steve.

PS Car is a 1991 S3

They are a TVR special and you can get them from the factory, or from any TVR dealer or specialist. Have they both gone? Normally the upper one goes well before the lower one. I suggest you ask them to add a gator when the fit the new one, a generic steering rack end gator works fine, this keeps the dirt out and provides some protection against radiant heat from the exhaust.

I am led to believe that they are not 100% Ford - although there are Ford markings on the joints.

Ended up getting mine from tower view - the joints are not cheap IIRC £50 each.

Good luck!!

I got mine from TVR-Power, ask for Andy, there were many different ones as per normal with TVR so be as descriptive as you can, I got the right one at the third attempt!! They were all different prices too ranging from around £20 to around £45 IIRC. Just ring him with a brief description of what it looks like, length, car year etc... they keep lots of them in stock.

Cheers

They might have part numbers stamped on them, but with TVR's habit of modifying and remanufacturing parts this isn't always reliable. I think the steering UJ is a case in point, it is apparently made by TVR using parts from several sources. If you buy through a dealer/specialist you can be confident you're getting the right part. If you get it elsewhere you might save money (or you might not) but you bear the risk that the part isn't quite what you need.

The Ford stamp/part number is correct for that half.... the design uses two different halves. It is a TVR special end of story. Worth putting a gaiter on to protect them as mentioned in the bible, by Pete and many many others.
