I had two quotes for complete systems which seem to vary a fair bit in price (one quote was for £1500) but these look good to me: -

Dear Kevin

TVR S2 2.9 (1990)

Thanks for your email.

We manufacture the manifolds and system in stainless steel for your TVR for £ 789.60 Pounds including VAT and delivery.

Our system is an accurate replica of the original system with the same performance, fit, sound and appearance.

This system is currently in stock.

All our exhaust systems come with our Twenty Five Year Corrosion Guarantee - here since 1973.

I hope that this will meet with your approval, if so the easiest way to order is via fax or telephone with a credit card - we accept all the usual cards

Please contact me directly with any questions you may have.

Best regards
Paul Goddard

I paid about £400 (IIRC) inc VAT for exhaust, downpipies and cat replacement pipes on an S3C.

Your price therefore looks high, assuming it excludes manifolds ? but includes fitting ?

But there are varying "qualities" of stainless steel, of which I know nothing about, which will affect price.

ACT and Penninsular seem popular choices; do a search to find several threads.

A few 'phone calls to some suppliers either in back of Sprint or listed on S Series site might help ?

Drop me an email if you want more info.

Also, some systems are loud, which can get tiresome; tired of people saying how great mine sounds, eh Richard ?

They state in their e-mail that it does included manifolds in stainless but it does say that the prices include delivery so I guess the prices are not including fitting.

I had another quote from a place in Surrey called Longlife Exhausts who make the exhaust to suit your requirements and fit whilst you wait (3 hour fitting service). So, everything was included but at a cost of £1500 I thought it was a bit steep! But they said that they have fitted a few to the S series recently so I'd guess that some of us on here have had them fitted. Let's hope they don't read this as they will realise that it's possible to get one at a third of the price. I think if I'd spent that kind of difference I'd prefer to remain ignorant.

Mine doesn't blow but the baffles are going as it now has a rather strange exhaust note at certain revs. I have steel manifolds at the moment and I'd like those in stainless too.

A sub £500 price sounds very good indeed. Where did you have yours from, did this price include fitting?

I'll see where mine came from, when I get home tonight. It was fitted by the previous owner...., I am sure it was around £300... excluding mainifolds and fitting

I always thought you should be able to get a system for about £350, and the downpipes are about £20 each. But I could be wrong.

I recently (February 2004) paid £600.07 all-in for my stainless exhaust (including downpipes and mounts etc). This was at The Garage nr. Guildford.

Look for Steve Reid's advert in the back of sprint. He sources them from somewhere in macclesfield - have one on mine - good quality and only #350ish from memory.

I'm actually ordering one from ACT today. They can be made up for you, if you want somthing a bit louder etc. IIRC the JP Exhausts from ACT are the ones Podie had fitted by Austec. I'll be doing the fitting myself as it's only 7 bolts. This won't include manifolds or down pipes as I have SS down pipes already (also from ACT).

I would reccomend getting an ACT one.

Yep, the manifolds, de-cat pipes and exhaust on mine are ACT sourced... and I'm very happy with it.. got a very distinctive sound to it and is loud without being overbearing....

As for the manifold bolts, as Pies says try WD40 and let it soak... although coke is quite good too...

Whiskey and Coke yeah that would help any job go smoothly....

I'll give it a try when I change my manifolds.

Probably worth investing in some brass nuts once you have got the manifolds off. I always replace with these, it makes getting them off in the future so easy.

Ah, in days gone by most cars used to have brass on the manifolds, along with copper brake pipes. At least TVR still used copper pipes on the S.

Prices are virtually the same as Quicksilver (at start of this thread) if you factor in the VAT on the ACT items which is included on the Quicksilver prices.
IIRC the Quicksilver units are also the same grade Stn Steel.

The ACT ones are tried and tested, so I'm going to go with that one, especially as I have bought a load of bits from them in the past and found the service excellent.

Mine is very badly cracked and I have put in a temporary repair.

I agree it's best to stick with the supplier you know and then you also know what you're getting. I also had an e-mail from Steve Reid to say £369 + VAT & carriage on a system. This is very good if it includes manifolds in that price. Steve Reid is a well known name and one I would trust ...especially at the price quoted!

It would be nice if I could beat everybody else's price and throw in a pair of manifolds but unfortunately that is not possible. I can supply manifolds at a good price though S/S @ £315pr and mild @£265 pr both plus Gordon Brown's cut. sTeVeR
