No sure aout the S1, but I recently fitted a decent MP3 headunit in my V8S - can't hear it at all!
Reckon it's time for some serious rear speakers and amps.
I don't want to be listening to the stereo much, not with that wonderful V8 soundtrack, but there are times on longer journeys when a few 'vibes' would be nice!

Mmmm...
Mine came with a half decent Kenwood (radio cassette..there are still some around) and aftermarket Pioneer speakers which sound great... until you start the engine up!
After that it's ok listening to it around town or pootling along country lanes but after 60 mph or so there's not much point in having good quality sounds as you just can't hear them clearly. Above 80 I can barely hear it at all!
Just my penneth..
Pookie.

Mine came with a JVC CD player and some knackered Alpine speakers. I have replaced it temporarily with my Kenwood Minidisc player and a cheap set of Pioneer speakers. I want to fit larger speaker but am a bit dubious about cutting the door. But 4" are not so good. I was considering fitting my Rockford Fosgate Sub, but then couldn't fit the roof panels in.
Definintely makes the 6 hour Newcastle to London more bearable.

I fitted a Kenwood single shot CD player as I was concerned that a multi-changer in the boot might skip a bit - not to mention taking up all too valuable space.
My door speakers are 6" and have built in mini-subs, fed through a crossover box which lives behind the dash ie each speaker is fed by four wires, not two. It sounds fine to me. Whilst not as meaty as a dedicated sub, this option may be a viable alternative to fitting one. A sub is not only space hungry but may mean you have to introduce more holes.
At the end of the day though, I hardly ever have the radio turned on. Is there any sweeter music than the rumbling and burbling of the engine ?
