Roof Storage Covers

Has anyone made or know where you can get better quality roof storage covers as the ones that came with the car are old stretched and generally not nice but the roof tops are mint so want to keep them that way

I was thinking the same thing. I've been looking at the price of sewing machines on Ebay and wondering if they'd be up to the job of sewing vinyl. Any one know the answer? I was thinking I could make a new gear lever gaiter with the waste.

I have an old electric machine, just a simple domestic model, and it will punch through 6 layers of vinyl if you use the right needle, I think most of them will. Problem with it is that when you try to do heavyweight sewing you have to give it so much throttle to start that you are instantly out of control.

I bought an old hand cranked machine, a Singer 128K, and that is much easier to control. Easy enough to use as well, once you've learned how to load the bobbins and thread it up. You can set the tension a lot higher than on my electric as well which is important for heavy work.

that would be great maby even a group buy could be done if others were interested

maby a smaller one for the jack / wheel brace too

Just dropped the targa tops off at a trimmer ive used before he is going to make a pair of nice fitted covers for them, i will post up pics and details once they are made.

I have been in touch with a mate who is a marine trimmer and cover maker. His work is of very high quality but not the cheapest! We are in the throws of designing a suitable padded cover. At the present we are trying a flat fold out cover in which you lay the panel fold in the two sides over the outside of the panel then bring the padded flap over the the two side flaps and fasten with valcro. If this design is suitable I will post it here and if anyone wants one they can contact Rod at Classic Covers, he is based in Norwich.

Picked mine up yesterday from local trimmer, really really pleased with them.

Black with grey piping and envelope type velcro top

Here it is.....

Diameter of circle is 21" (not allowing for seem)
The band covering the tread is 4"
The gap at the bottom is 5" from straight edge to bottom of tyre
At the back are two pieces of elastic

There is just about enough room/give to pull the cover up a bit to get the securing bolt in or out
