Low Temp fan switch

Anyone changed the standard fan switch to a lower temp version ?

Just thought if the fans kick in earlier its kinder to the engine and less worry if stuck in traffic.

I have fitted a bypass switch to my fan as described in the Steve Heath bible. This leaves the engine to run at it's most efficent temp. 90degs but gives you the ability to switch the fan on in standing traffic etc.

I fitted one to mine , came from tower view racing . I think its a very good mod , not everybody thinks its a good idea but I'm a fan

I cant see any down side to this mod if there is I would be interested to know. As my old Dad said,"A day without learning is a day wasted"

If you run the engine too cool the ECU will think the engine hasn't warmed up (well actually it hasn't!) and inject more fuel which is not good long term.

Thought about fitting a switch but not sure I can get all different temp switches just need to find out the thread size and decide on a lower temp maby 5 deg less

so does that mean the lower temp otter switch is the better option , a manual over ride has no automatic off relying on the dipstick sitting behind the wheel ( no insult intended to any owners ) to check the temp gauge and turn off the fan when the temp falls , the low temp switch still only tends to come on when the car is stationary in traffic when managing the heat of a big engine in a small engine bay is a problem for all TVRs . Interested in your thoughts .

I presume you mean bore wash, for the few times you will be sat in traffic slight overfuel isnt that bad and may help cool the engine.

There seems to be many different thread and different temp switches so i need to remove it to find out the thread then find out at what temp this one cuts in to the get a reduced one.

Just my 10p worth, but if you fit a lower temp fan switch then you are altering the standard spec that Ford will have decreed is suitable for your engine, you may even be masking a possible problem, my S had a std stat, std fan switch and no over ride switch for the cooling fan and it NEVER overheated or lost any coolant even in heavy traffic in the middle of summer, the basic jist is, IMHO a healthy cooling system needs no modifying to make it work properly, good luck.

Always had trouble getting mine warm till I moved the bypass hose connection from the swirl pot to the bottom hose. Now up to temp and toasty in 5 minutes, just the job for the winter.

Fair point but Ford didn't expect TVR to mess with the cooling system and shoe horn it into a small fiberglass engine bay . If the cars all ran as they should no one would need an over ride either . TVR you got to love em

Dont get me wrong its never sat there smoking and boiling up, just my bottom starts twitching when stopped in traffic and im just sat there watching the gauge going up and up so really wanted to preserve any problems from happening.

Apart from stat / rad / fans / fan switch there isnt really much to the cooling system

Stat i presume works
Rad is new
Fans work
Fan switch works

Maby the system is full or water rather than proper coolant ??

Again fair point given, my thoughts are a standard healthy cooling system just as TVR/Ford intended will not give you any problems at all.

Why not fit a Kenlowe fan with an old school manual dial thermostat in the cockpit and you can run at what ever temperature you want?

is the idea of using a lower temperature fan switch such a fuelling issue? wouldnt the engine temp be regulated by the coolant thermostat?

Do you know what temp one you have ? how far from the red does yours go before fans cut in ?

Tower view are no longer trading i dont think so any help would be great

Sorry don't have the S anymore
Downgraded to a Tam .
I passed all the paperwork on with the car so cant even look that out for you .
