Expansion Tank Upgrade
Discussion
I have been very unhappy with the standard expansion tank/bottle ever since I had the car but finally have an upgraded tank which will be fitted weather permitting this week end.
It has been sourced from an early MG B and looked manky at first

Along side the original the only difference was the location of the inlet/outlet

A new bracket was needed

And a pair of Stainless Steel Caps (well polished) as well

And the end result prior to fitting

Thanks to Adrian Venn for his suggestion that an early land rover, brass, tank would fit, couldnt find on of those but stumpled on the MGB as an alternative

Crikey! That's as shiny as a shiny thing that's just been polished!
Tinks will be green with envy
It's not my style however - I go for function over form, which is why I chose an ugly translucent plastic version with about 50% extra capacity, so my coolant level can go happily up and down without filling or emptying said bottle, and I can see at a glance what the level is.
(Oh - and it only cost a tenner new...)
Well done anyway!

How did you go about relocating the inlet/outlet pipe?
Collected mine yesterday after having the the pipe and was told the piping internally went to the bottom of the tank anyway.Norman - how did you strip the paint off before polishing/buffing? - nitromorse, quickly washed off?
will the brass only tarnish anyway once there's hot fluid in it?

Tried both ways Chris - and we'll have no smut round here!!!
Dont forget one of the worries with the pressure cap on the expansion tank is that the pressure could blow out the sensors which are on some tanks. No worries with a brass tank.Tried both ways Chris - and we'll have no smut round here!!!
