"S Club Heaven in England 2011 (A woman's tale by Anita)
On the night of Thursday to Friday, June 24, 2011, the alarm at 3:00 pm. Everything is caught only the last things still. Head under cold running water and ate a sandwich ne have been leaving at 4:00 as planned. We look forward to the weekend camping in England, Wales and the ride of course the "show" day on Sunday. A beautiful park with many ancient trees, hundreds of sheep, goats and deer. The park is a few thousand hectares with a huge mansion, a teahouse, greenhouse, stables and operated accommodation!
Way behind in the countryside, we can drop our tent. A huge lawn for only S Club campers, great. And believe it or not, we are the first! We explore the site and found only a log cabin with two men and two women's toilets in each block and a sink where the tap water is not for the ladies. There is no light / electricity, which promises some. Soon after we get the following two TVRs are growling in. Including Mark, one of the organizers. The tent will be set up quickly, because the air is filled with dark clouds.
If the gate of the dam is ready for more (thus S's). Never knew there was so much space in a TVR S fits. Besides tent gear, air mattress, pump, pillows, sleeping bags, chairs, breakfast stuff, clothes, shoes and toiletries (why, no shower and little running water). The English also have a gasset with a pot of "bacon and eggs" and a kettle for tea with him!
The rain and we should conclude with a group going to the pub to eat and do not forget to drink beer. After a great meal to have eaten, UKP 17.50 for 4 people and we needed beer at closing time at 23:00 back to "camp". It is still raining and we quickly dive into the sleeping bag.
Saturday morning at 6:15 I wake up, that Englishmen are already chatting about their TVRs. The rain has stopped so the cars have to be polished. I turn to but just still. But then I woke up again the most delicious smell of fried eggs with bacon. I crawl out anyway the tent, grab a chair and start to dry my bun with a Diet Coke. Soon, we got invited by the neighbors for a real English breakfast.
The morning toilet is made quickly and at 10:00 the announcement before leaving for Wales. Small groups of five cars are made and we have a total of + / - 35 and S-. Fortunately, we leave open because it is not raining. With much noise we leave the camp and go into the villages have a lot of attention. People stand and laugh, pointing to our boys. We are the only Dutch and there is also a German couple with a TVR S.
We have to drive a little faster because it's going to drizzle again (good excuse). At 12:00 we stop for lunch at the "Ponderosa Cafe" at the Horseshoe Pass. All TVRs are in a long row along the edge of the parking lot. A beautiful sight, especially for the fans. Many photos are taken and everyone is happy. After lunch (battered Cod and chips), it is high time to return to ride another route back into this beautiful area. It looks very Scottish, just like the lingo there. In the afternoon back at the campsite, cars are again cleaned, consumed beer or whatever and everything ready for the BBQ joint that night.
We are approximately 60 men and 6 women, good distribution so! Everyone seems to be starved of the ride and the atmosphere. Choice of sausage or hamburger, and (healthy) coleslaw. Then, a campfire, follow the trays with beer and some join the "club whiskey." 24:00 to go to sleep anyway.
It's Sunday morning 26/6/2011, the English and bake again sitting at the tea. TVRs are cleaned and tents taken down. Everything should be back in, it is also less than the roof. The sun is shining and it promises to be a beautiful day. By 10:00, the gathering at the edge of the grass for the big house (the house of the Earl of Weston Park).
After the establishment of the TVR-S and the Piston Heads campers, you'll hear from all sides more drone arrive (the day trips people). The arrangement is only extended from one row to two rows and that two sides of the path. It's a very pretty face, even with the house in the background. Visitors to the park with admiring glances pass and the weather has turned into super warm and sunny. Everything is in place. And Han has found anyone been so mad to let him drive in his Tamora, he comes back grinning.
For charity, many lots were sold. The raffle begins and yes Han price has 2x, 1x service work at TVR Power worth UKP 150, - and two hours on the dynamometer at Austec. English prices so but that should not spoil the fun.
A total of £ 1,340 for Cancer Research fetched!
Meanwhile, everyone can vote for the best S1/S2, S3/S4 and best in show. There is a "car go, no show car" award as a tribute to recently deceased PH member. The proud winners gather for taking photos.
It's time to break, most have still a long drive back home. Because one comes from Scotland the other from the Lake District and Cumbria to Devon. It was a fun hotchpotch with the same purpose. And we women, though only with 6's, gave us very entertained and we go back next time just with you!"
