What is this band on the cooling system?

Hi all,

I'm currently rebuilding the front end of my car and I've come across this red band (see pics) on the swirl pot outlet (to radiator). My car has an aftermarket fan fitted so the purpose of the band seems to be to act as a sealant, under the hose/jubliee clip, after the temperature sensing device is inserted into the coolant stream. If you look closely you can see where the temperature sensor wire as put an indentation in the band. As part of the rebuild I'd like to replace the band. Any ideas what it is or where I can get one? From feel it may just be a big bit of heat shrink tubing that has been slipped over the pipe.

Think you're absolutely right, my Taimar has a Kenlowe electric fan fit fitted and a similar (sort of crescent shaped, doesn't go right round the pipe) piece of rubbery stuff where the sensor goes into the system.

Would some silicone squidged in and left to set before fully tightening, mould itself into something suitable


ETA. what is that magazine you're working on,one picture looks like an E Type on alloys ?

Yes, it's a gland for the capillary tube to go through. Fan controllers supplied with a capillary sensor would usually be supplied with one. I doubt they're worth enough to be worth selling separately so you might want to reuse the one you've got, unless there's something wrong with it. There's nothing obviously wrong in the photo.
