Clutch friction plate orientation

When I dismantled the engine and gearbox on strip down I made the point of checking with the Sierra manual the orientation of the friction plate and sure enough the plate has "flywheel side" written on it. No worries then. However coming to fit the thing the plate has no helpful writing on it at all. The plate is not symetrical and therefore must attach a correct way round (see drawing). Also I appreciate its probably a false economy not to fit a new clutch kit whilst the e&g are out but there's no scoring on the pressure plate and a good 4mm of tread left on the friction plate and, being a tight Yorkshireman 170 large is alot to fork out. Unless of course someone knows better.

Think you've got it right, the splined centre hub may well foul the flywheel (a sure give away) if wrong way round.

I've got a new friction plate and that is has 3.5mm of material each side so your 4mm sounds like a newish plate - assuming it isn't 4mm total for both sides but then you'd be on the rivets.
