has anybody fitted / bought the electric retractable aerial to their car lately. (how to fit and where did you buy it) I'm thinking of fitting one to mine as I have two naf bits of wire sticking out of the boot.

I bought a electric aerial from halfords (think it was one of those fits all type electric aerials), pretty simple to fit, just followed the instructions. Only thing you need to make sure off is that it has good earth otherwise reception is a bit crap..

I fitted a fixed short aerial recently £5.00 from Maplins. Works a treat and if a scroat snaps it off the replacement mast is £2.

My ariel is bust and it's a massive hassl e to run the wire along the car, also an eletric ariel is around £50 . Much better things to spend the money on. Like food or rent.

Just a word of caution....

Be careful when tightening the aerial as they usually have a rounded serated collar that fits inside the wing to earth the aerial. Completely useless on a TVR of course as it's GRP but that's where there's also a danger.

If you fit this serated collar to the inside of the wing it is likely to cause damage over time as the aerial has a certain amount of movement when the car is moving and this will eventually lead to the serated ege of the collar chewing up the fibreglass.

You can't usually leave this off as the aerial relies on it to fit properly but you could make a plate up to fit flat inside the wing to protect the GRP.

Does anyone have any experience of taking these electic (upy downy) fella's out of the S ? Mine has stopped doing the upy downy thing, it's a mechanical problem rather than an electrical one, so I thought I'd take it out to service it. It's attached to the body of the car by a big metal earthing strap at the bottom - with what I suspect is a self tapping bolt through it into the wheel arch. Tried undoing this, but it's a right royal btard. It turns (just) - but get's no looser. I think mine is the original (based on the amount of rust on the bottom attachment). Kind of know this is a hopeless question but ... any thoughts ?

Thanks Chaps,

WG

PS: Only 4 days till she goes into Austec for a new engine and a bit of Podiesation very excited - no cloud of smoke following me anymore - more vrooooooomm !
