There's a chap here at work selling his gorgeous Chim.
It's just been advertised on PH as well, so should find it there in the classifieds somewhere.

It's so nice that it's made me think about selling the S (again) and my everyday VW and run a modern Chim as my main car.

What am I to do?

After a week of rain on the South coast, the sun came up this morning and the S was rolled out of the garage, the 307 was abandoned and I took the cross country route to work with the hood down.

Surely a Chimp as your only car and this novelty would wear off ??

Not to mention the character of the S - the shakes, the rattles, the quirky electrics, the 'whats going to fall off next' but above all, its ability to put the biggest grin on your face.

Nah, forget the Chimp - keep the S.

T'was just me dreaming .....I'd like both really!

If I was a rich man!

His Chim is a lovely car but I know what you mean, it wouldn't be the same if I left home feeling confident that I'd actually get to my destination with all my teeth still in place.

i like having the option of getting into the everyday hack if the weather is crap or I am off somewhere not too desirable to park the car. Ran my S as an everyday car due to only having 1 parking space and initially ran the chim daily too but soon bought a second car and not looked back.

I'll have a Chim! I run the S as an everyday car and could do with a bit more! Although there is no chance I'll ever afford it.

I'm improving the S and will continue to do so over the next year or so.

New heads, new engine sensors, new ignition parts, new fuel pump, new fuel tank (soon), a new pair of exhaust manifolds (soon) and perhaps a new system, new carpets, new hood (soon), new alloys & tyres, new paint (soon), new lights, new brakes, new shocks (soon).

So, I hope that I can go anywhere with confidence!

Er ....and get back again of course!

Kentish, if you're manifolds are in decent nick I'll buy them off you, same for a few other bits.

Sorry guys but it doesn't wear off - there is no cure for the TVR bug. I drove an S2 as my every day car for 3 years followed by S3 for 3 years and now Griff - 2 years so far. I must admit sometimes the S's were a bit of a pain in the winter with week after week of wet weather and steamy interiors, but the Griff cockpit is a nice place to be at any time of year. ( So long as you remember to keep it below 2500 RPM in the first 4 gears on a wet road)

i agree the bug doesnt wear off but I do prefer having the second car that i dont give a toss about on many occasions. Its rare that I decide to take my tin top and then sit there wishing I was in the chim. I dont reserve the chim for weekends only - the criteria only has to be if I am not doing a long journey for work, if its not raining and if I am parking somewhere less than pleasant (where previously I shit myself every minute I was away from the car). I dont miss those times...

I wouldn't have run my Chim as a main car.. too many numpties who can't reverse/see/drive in UK carparks for my liking... you just can't rest easy.

Hi Chris,

I just had a call from Coastal Engines and the S is all finished now and apparently running perfectly. I asked about the manifolds and they are OK, t'was just the gasket blowing a little I guess.

So, with my rebuilt heads and the car having been to Class Cars after to get it set up ....the airflow meters have been re-set (not sure how you do that) and the timing done it now apparently runs really well but I'm not so sure I'll be off to Austec for a while as this little lot has just cost me £710!

Comes the same month the road tax is due on my VW and insurance on both the Tiv and VW, of course.

Bread & water for me now (if I'm lucky)!

What did you have done to the heads? Ported, flowed and large valves? or Just a rebuild?

Hi Chris,

Just a rebuild this time but I'll be saving up for the Austec ECU remap which must be the cheapest way of adding horses!

Cheers,
Kevin

Anymore details on the Chimera that was for sale? A friend of mine is looking and thinks he has found his perfect one already, but I'm keen for him to look at all options...

Hi Tim,

I don't know the owner but he works at the same place as me and has sent me some pictures. It does look fantastic.

If you can send me a blank e-mail to kevin_hackman@pfizer.com I will send you his advert and some photos back.

Cheers,
Kevin
