My passenger side door has locked me out!! My flat mate tried to open it today and the interior handle no longer functions!! The outer handle sticks with the key in it and the interior one does nothing! Grrrr..... time to take the trim off! I reckon the cable has slipped off or something.

That sounds the most likely. When I did my trim I forgot to re-attach the cable with the obvious result

Anybody know what I do if it's snapped? Also the outer handle seems to move up and down a bit??

Apparently you can use a chim heater cable to replace the door release cable (same size etc).

David Geralds did mine the last time it was in - but I need to adjust it as its stretched a bit, and is now fouling the central locking solenoid on the door so it won't lock.

The outer handle is held in place by two screws IIRC. They probably just need tightening. To reach them you need to remove the door trim I'm afraid.

When I took the door trim off to sort out my electric window I spotted that the mechanism was a bit rusted... cleaned it up... bit of WD40 and some grease and it's now as smooth as the proverbial infants arse.

Ok, one snapped cable in the door, and I can't get to the bolt that holds the door handle in place.

I hear that there is a very detailed window mechanisim on the wedge page site not the forum, i believe they are the same as the wedge, if you go onto wedge forum and ask for wedgepages web address someone will post reply, I have tried looking but cannot find

Is the problem that the door is locked and you can't unlock it?

The lock mechanism looks fairly crude and I expect you could pick it, you just need to lift the rod that sticks up out of the door when it is unlocked. I would try by lowering the window and then putting a wire hook through the gap at the back.

No my main problem is that I have the door in pieces, and you can't exit it from the inside. Also the key sticks badly. Have just gotten some replacement wire for it.

Lee Bee (regular Pistonheads contributor) replaced a snapped cable on the door on my V8S a few weeks ago. If he doesn't reply to your message mail me and I'll give you his address. I'm sure he'd run through it with you on the phone.

I have fixed it after much trial and error, also cured my terrible door droop. Quite and easy job actually. A bit frustrating though, what with the door trim on and off. Many thanks to David Batty for his patience and time.
