Speedo not working for first couple of min

Just started happening speedo wont work for the first couple of min then starts working

Before i start pushing pulling proding and swearing

Any advise i presume its a electric speedo is it run of the gearbox ?

If it's a V8S, leave it alone - it's normal.

It's a feature!
I had a new speedo made and it cured it - so it is the head unit thats at fault.
The V8 & V6 speedos are the same apart from a minor change in circuitry to accomodate 6 / 8 cylinders.

Going to be changing the 4 dials in the middle of the dash now thinking weather to change the speedo and rev too so all match and all new

For the MOT in 2010 my speedo showed the same symptoms as yours. It has since spent all year off the road. For the 2011 MOT at beginning of November it worked perfectly!

Thats a result then, is speedo a mot requirement ? worst case a tom tom would class as a speedo as it shows speed

Took it out again this morning cannot understand why it starts off not working then works rather than working then stop working

Personally (V8S), I think it’s connected with the ambient temperature and the viscosity of the oil in the gearbox. In warm weather my speedo works straight from the off but in the spring and autumn it can take between 5 and 15 miles for it to start reading ie when the gearbox oil warms up. I ran ATF in the ‘box for a short while and the speedo started working noticeably quicker. When I put “proper” gearbox oil back in it went back to being temperature sensitive. So for my money, whilst the instrument head probably is suspect as well, it’s mainly down to what sort of oil you are using and the ambient temperature. Strange but true.

That would make sence as it was fine until the cold weather a week or so ago and also makes sence as when the gearbox oil is warmed up its starts working
