S1 electric power steering

Has anyone converted their S1 to electric power steering? There are a lot of kits and information available, and it looks SOOOO SIMPLE. Despite that, I like to learn from other peoples mistakes if I can. (Their experience and knowledge also willingly accepted) Jim Heiner.

Its doable but its a lot of hard work. I have fitted the corsa C with corsa B stalks.

The bracket I made to take the power steering colum.



It bolts to the original door side and the bulkhead as the old one did, I have also supported at the top of the foot well to give it extra support

Bugger. The Peter Lloyd site and others make it sound easy. Pull out the column, fit the motor, put it back in and wire it up. Thanks for the photos.

Did it improve the steering much, or give any problems afterwards?

You have to use the corsa B stalks as the Corsa C has a body ecu and the signals go to the ecu as a pulse, the corsa B stalks are a direct fit and are on spades and have a input and output that can be wired in as 12v + or 12v - allowing you to control indicators, headlights and wipers with relays. ignition also has to go through relays, most of the wires are very thin and I guess they wont take the current to control things direct.

Thank you for hints. Will consider what to do once Christmas rush has quietened down. The direct steering is lovely on the road, but parking in city a bit stiff without power. Jim Heiner.

A couple months in the gym will help lols only kidding I know the issue.. One observation though mine is better better since I replaced the bulkhead bearing just a thought. Yours may be fine though.

So, what's that funny big pedal you've got there? And where'd the clutch pedal go?

The funny big on is the brake and there is no clutch, 5 Speed auto with overdrive on a stand alone ECU with paddle shift, I can programme any shift pattern and gear change with preset ranges and max change rpm.

How much do you really want to do it?

This can be made to fit with some minor mods (Well it did on my V8S)
