Fuel tank strainer

Fuel tank strainer is completely (and beyond repair) clogged with liquid sealant, which I used (apparantly abundantly) twice refitting the tank fuel sender.
Does anyone know where the original is from?
Alternatives?

I used a paint strainer with minor modification ( drilled a bigger hole so it fitted on tube) ~ only cost a couple of quid.

It was called a "GFS 12" (gravity feed strainer) and was supplied by local motor factors who suggested it's use after seeing my defunct one.
