Just found a place near me that sells H4 - HID conversions. Gives you all the parts and bulbs to replace you H4s with HID. £250.

Opinions. I'm off to have a look after work tonight. Not to buy (I am broke after all), just to get some eletrical connectors to attatch my Crystal Halogens.

i wouldn't bother with anything that relies on the wireing of a S. I added an extra set of driving lights to the car and the extra load constantly blue fuses.

I would stay with uprated bulbs. my lights are great now, i even get flashed if i leave them on full beam

The point is with HID you don't need great wiring as they draw very little current compared with normal halogen bulbs and the light output in unaffected by a poor voltage/current supply.

Simarly, we are all better off changing our bulbs for the high intensity LEDs. Especially for brake lights as they are not slow to light like ordianry bulbs and require very little current.

My sidelights are large, white LEDs.

I thought you need a high voltage to start the HID bulbs

The xenon ones in me omega appear to flash when you turn them, and they do have a rather large back to them which must contain a wopping capaciter, judging from the warnings around it

That's right, they do require a heavy starting voltage but this is done by capacitance stepped up from the 12 volts. This was what I discovered when I was looking into a kit for my VW, instead I bought new light units and used xenon charged 12v bulbs and they are now very good.
