Ford Focus - this is serious!
Discussion
I'm p......d off now! Just got blown out on a fast A road by a TDCI Focus. Couldnt keep up with him through the curly bits.....!!!
Have I lost my bottle - or is my S that bad? I was pushing it, not hanging around (in fact I'd say it was the hardest I'd driven her
)
I need some tlc and reassurance here....
PS got him in the end - thank god for the romans (straight bits!!)

Driver ability is everything on the twisties......!

The ford focus TDCi is quite a bit of kit it uses a similar engine mapping to the golf TDi and that would leave quite alot of high performance cars behind also front wheel drive so better in the twistys, But obviosly not on the track, Our cars are not built for bumpy crap country lanes, I had a leon diesel once and that was very quick indeed.
I also had an S2000 240bhp and i was left for dust by a 2.0 cavalier on a damp twisty bit of road comming through woburn once. Felt better when i blew a BMW M3 on a nice straight bit later

wedget has got it spot one. Mrs Soton has a year old TDi130 Golf and with decent rubber it grips like the proverbial dung to a blanket. In addition, with more torque than a lot of big engined petrol cars, it pulls like a train in any gear. This makes it pretty damn quick through the bendy bits. Dunno if I'd fancy its chances against the S on a straight though.

I think its becuase that Tivs dont feel taught or well screwed together when blasting through twisty bits which inspires a lack of confidence.
Personally I prefer to do my jousting on long stretches as opposed to the twisty pieces. I've tormented all the posh metal by keeping up with them when they've tried to leave me in their wake. I also know when I'm beaten before I've started though that will change once I get my hands on an S6 or a Griff 500!!!

Thanks for that everyone ![]()
.....but it STILL hurts though: I mean it doesnt change the fact that its a bleeding ford focus and a deisel at that.
Haven't felt this gutted for ages, well about a week really, since Beckham missed!!
You big Jessie! you're meant to change gear, even an S will struggle using first gear only

IMHO its not down to who has the fastest car ,but who is prepared to drive fastest.
I am not a good driver, neither am I quick, but surly that shouldn't`t stop me owning the car of my choice, I get overtaken by all sorts of rubbish but I am trying to keep my promise to my family that I would`t kill myself.
It can be very frustrating being overtaken by someone driving too fast for the conditions or even the guy who wants to say to his mates he took a TVR but there will always be someone out there who has to prove a point.
Having just read the above I sound just like my dad
How fast were you going when you got him?

Ray, you know me!!!! It wouldnt be much fun beating anything in a TVR if I was using the gears - if only
.....I think I must be a Jess - but at least Im living to tell the tale eh!! just going to enjoy the burble
and practice 'eagles' and 'flies' in traditional nose up fashion behind me shades My 145bhp chipped VW Passat Tdi sticks to a dry road like glue and does feel faster than my S2 around bends but I think the S could be driven just as quickly with that confidence that was mentioned.
I find that not much keeps up with the S on a straight, just motor bikes mainly.
I did find a maxed up Honda CRX that gave a good challenge a few weeks back but he wasn't really up to it when I dropped into 3rd and howled off into the ditance down the long straight (privately owned) dual carriageway!
I let him catch up a bit further on and then did the same again, and again, and again until we parted company at the next roundabout which led me back onto a public road where I naturally observed all speed requirements.
