Engine Oil Treatments/Additives.

I wonder if you learned guys out there could advise on whether oil additives such as Slick 50 or the like are desireable or otherwise? They claim enhanced protection under extreme conditions such as initial start-up and high temps etc, but do they really work? Also which modern oil do you recommend for my 1987 2.8 V6 S1 at 67,000 miles? Apologies if this has been previously covered here, but I'd like your input.

Undesirable i.m.h.o. How much do you think the big oil companies plough into R & D to get their products just right? Post on the Opie Oils thread (link below) and Guy will give you his learned opinion on this & the correct oil to use. It would also be worth you giving him a clue how you drive the car (e.g. any track days or just road use), how often its used and whether in winter months?.

This one rears its head every so often on here or other forums.

General consensus seems to be modern oil contain everything you need but over the years loads of top racing cars and teams have sported "STP" stickers, there must be something in it

Some people will put anything on their race cars for money/kind - me included

Otherwise.

You're generally better staying away from snake oil and sticking to just the lucky rabbits feet - at least they won't gum up your oil filter and knacker your oil circulation.

Thanks for your feedback gents, I reckon it's premium oil on its own then.
My oil pressure has never yet dropped below zero
