Another part has just given up leaving me stranded....Again!
Discussion
What I would do is remove the starter and take it to be reconditioned, that way you eliminate the problem of buying the wrong starter at higher cost and more hassle taking it back etc, chances are it is just the solenoid which should be about £25-£30 fitted at your local auto electrical place, good luck.

I replaced my starter recently (2.9L V6). On phoning the motor factors it transpired that Ford used two different starters in the 2.9L Granada. I took mine off and was able to quote the part number to them (use the part number on the main body of the motor). The part number for mine was 0001108035 and it was made by Bosch. I think it would be wise to check the part no on yours before getting a new unit. New unit was easy to install.

That's the best way to look at it. No easier on the wallet but at least it's a quick fix and when it's doen you'll be mobile again. Be grateful it's not a nightmare fault like MEP's. Suggest you check any service history you have and make a judgement about what else might need doing and if it critical take pre-emptive action to avoid getting stranded.Hi
You could also try these people, they sold me just the solenoid and with no problems to change, they will post parts UK wide. I was very pleased with them.

The starter motor is with the local autofactor guys and they think it can be reconditioned so fingers crossed. Once I've got a definitive answer to the prob I'll post what's wrong and any other info I find out. Really appreciating all the help guys.
I'm also having the heater/blowers fixed so I'll post how that goes too. Noticed there's a few heater/blower issues on here at the min.
