Evening All

After 7 happy years of ownership and lurking on here I have decided to sell my 1991 Precat V8S frown - we have a little one on the way and a restoration project house move pending.

I am struggling to establish what it is worth though - there are none for sale on here to get a benchmark?

Some details:

1991(J) Precat V8S
Cooper Green
76,000 Miles
Serviced last 7 years with Paul and the guys at Walldonway (Ex TVR Main Dealer)
New Camshaft [Walldonway 2010]
Partial Body Lift - outriggers sorted [Walldonway 2009]
ACT stainless steel Sports Manifolds/Y piece + Full Sports Exhaust [Austec]
Mark Adams Tornado Chip
Magnecor Leads
Gaz Nickel Shocks

Any thoughts on likely value would be appreciated (piccies below to give a guide on condition - very good 'used' condition!)

Thanks

Larry

If it's as good as it looks, I would be expecting to get £8k+ for it, especially once the winter's over. See also:

I agree £8k+ personally put it up for 10 and see what offers you get as its not as if a buyer will be spoilt for choice.

or maby sell the modifications on a exchange basis so you get some money back and the car is still complete

( first dabs on the shocks if you do )

Well said, go for £10k. I don't know any other car which will give you so much performance and grin factor for the money!
They are undervalued and really rare.
The Bible shows 410 built plus 3 or 4 in 1994. The SMMT registrations apparently show a total of 436, including 20 in 1994. That said there could be less than 300 on the road today.

At the risk of repeating myself from another recent topic.... I spent a fruitless 12 months looking at £7/8K V8S, and was finally prompted to pay 10K for a beauty (36K, detailed engine bay, sorted chassis and suspension etc, etc), and haven't regreted it since. The moral of the story being that if you've got a good'un, don't give it away - quality always sells!. Good luck ... Chris

As we S owners take pride in our cars and restore/repair/modenise them to the best we can.
They can only increase in value as time goes by. They are a rare breed and becoming rarer with time.
With the V8's being very rare for good ones.

If we sell the marque short it will always remain that way. Lets keep them as high as we can.

Of the .. soapbox now

Thanks All

It sounds like £8k+ is the general view - I don't think I could stretch it to £10k as it is in generally very good condition but does have the odd stone chip and blemish as it is a well looked after 'used' example rather than a show car!

I also have a refurbed set of OZ 8 Spokes and an un-refurbed set of 15" Imolas which hopefully would satisfy any potential buyer who doesn't like the OZ Split Rims which can be an acquired taste - I didn't like the Split Rims initially, but have grown to like them over the years.

Once the weather improves and the salty roads dissapear I will get him out and cleaned up, and some decent photo's taken.

Cheers

Larry (Gonna miss that moment that makes you smile on start up!) frown

A good V8S may be worth 8 - 10K and I really hope they are, but just for info, I asked Tony Gilbert Cars for a part ex price for my 1993 90000 miles V8S against a £14000 1992 4.3 Griff and he offered me 4 - 5K PX, all be it from an email description and a few recent photos I sent him.

I think maybe he likes to buy low and sell high. Or maybe he hadn't read this thread.

thats how dealers make money ? they buy cars and sell for a profit.

to be honest i think thats a good px price he buys at £5000 and sells for say £8000 by the time he get the car checked over fixes any unknown problem puts a warranty on it pays his tax's on any profit pays towards his site etc

yes the mark up is a little more but as we all know a tvr isnt a bmw things go wrong and the last thing a dealer wants is a car which needs loads of constant fixing or has problems when a buyer is there.

to be honest get some good photos and write a good advert and you will sell a v8s all day long just remember the words you will never hear from a buyer " well i got a couple of others to look at " as it just wont happen.

I sold mine a few weeks ago.

The market is a strange one- very very few dedicated V8S buyers out there. A few in the "just want a classic British V8" category, one or two upgrading from a V6 S and a comment I heard a lot was "well I could always buy a £5k Chimaera..." (to which my reply was: great, do it- I promise to be sympathetic in 6 months time...).

Mine was relatively low mileage, lots of work done, 1 or two really minor niggles. Rob Ingleby was impressed by it and described it as a top TVR. The buyer asked that I don't say who bought it or for what price but what I will say is that in my experience the prices quoted above tend towards the high side in the current market.

A used car dealer who likes to buy low and sell high? No, I'm sure there must be some other explanation!laugh
