Diff rebuild update (problem :( )
Discussion
Ok you may be aware I am having a Quaife ATB build for my S.. but we have run into a problem.. the diff removed from my car turns out to be a 9" unit..?
WTF do we think TVR put this on or has it been swapped out by a previous owner..? now the 500Bhp Cosworth boys were using 9" diffs when I was in that scene but for my little TVR its way overkill..
So options are, source a 2nd hand 7.5" case and use that for the rebuild, or rebuild the 9" unit..?
Thoughts, offers of cheep 7.5" cases..? internal condition does not really matter, a good crown wheel would be good though.. does anyone want a 9" differential in swap for a 7.5" case.?
When this was removed the garage did mention it was hard to get off (prob due to size) but it does seem odd.. I have a whining 7.5" Cosworth unit on there now and driveshafts have not been a problem so far.
I am now somewhat confused..
Thanks

The 9" diff should be bullet-proof in your apllication. What's the ratio? Your car is a V6 so the ratio should be 3.6. I think the V8 might be around 3.4, but that's just from memory and I thought it was still a 7.5" size. Maybe you have a V8 diff in a V6 car?? Or just what TVR had lying around at the time!!
If I were you I would keep the 9" and forget the Quaife ATB idea. Just get a normal clutch pack LSD fitted.

Update.. Quaife contacted me again to appologise.. It is a 7.5 diff after all, just a new technition (I'm getting worried now....) and anyway its currently in sandblasting (the case that is) and will be ready by the end of the week..
So Some relief there.. thanks for the comments JW the I think the 9" was a Touring car diff used in the RS500 600Bhp + days..
Re the ATB I know its OTT but I always wanted one when I had my Cossie now I can have on abiet on the TVR.. The car is a keeper anyway so I look forward to many years of use from her.
Thanks
