Manifold gasket

Can someone tell me if the 2.8 and 2.9 exhaust head to manifold gaskets are the same, no one seems to know about 2.9 gasket at my local auto factor?

No. 2.8 only has 2 ports each side (square I think), 2.9 has 3 round ports.

Pretty sure they are (2.8 only needs 4) but the old 3.0 litre "Essex" V6 are different

they don't look square anyway but, there again, why a set of six ??

Thats a 2.8 two port cast manifold and they are 2.9 gaskets....fit perfect!

Thats a 2.8 two port cast manifold and they are 2.9 gaskets....fit perfect!

You're right - it's the inlet ports that are square, my mistake.

(And I was thinking about an all-in-one 3 port gasket, even although my 2.9 has the separate gaskets as in your photo.)

I think I need a holiday...

Isn't the three joined together into one the genuine Ford gasket?

Those in my picture are good quality copies, notice the metal "flame ring" around each hole.

"cheap" copies are just cut out of gasket material.


The flanges on TVR manifolds are prone to distortion and ideally should be filed flat before replaceing gaskets (new gaskets won't last long otherwise).

Yes I think the genuine Ford gaskets are all in one (and even then, on the 2.9 at least, they don't fit straight on - the holes are slightly too far apart so you have to put a wee "crimp" between each hole to shorten the spacing...)

Mine are exactly the same as yours, all separate with the little sealing ring (and a right pain to hold in place while you get the 6 bolts through).

My 2.9 has six gaskets that look like phillpot's, yes.

I bought gaskets for my S2 from [e-mail] last week, they advertised gaskets specifically for "2.4/2.9 V6 cologne engine" and they appear to fit ok (bore of the gasket appeared a little oversize for the opening in the head,& a little small for the opening in the manifold and the bolt holes were a little larger than on the gaskets that came off) but the inner ring apears to be securely pinched and they are not blowing at present.
