Help with engine wiring V6 S2

Hi all, Hope someone can answer this for me ! I am just connecting up my engine wiring and I have 2 questions.

1. I have a single black lead on the nearside of the engine. I am sure that this was draped across the rocker cover and attached to the throttle cable mounting bolted to the side of the plenum.I assume that its to ensure everything attached to the plenum is properly earthed. Could someone confirm please, also it seems a sloppy way to just 'drape' the lead has anyone rerouted it more neatly ?

2. This one is a little more worrying. There is on the offside of the engine, just under the coil alongside the fuel injector multiplug a single wire with a blade connector. This does fit into a corresponding connector on the other side of the multiplug loom. BUT the connectors look like they have never been connected as they are a bit dirty. I dont remember un-connecting them, but I could have...does anyone know if they should be connected or not ?

Yes the black wire bolts to the throttle cable brackets via a 10mm bolt. Mine is zip tied to the main cable loom emerging from tha passenger footwell and crossing behind the engine near the distributor.
I also have a single wire adjacent to the main loom on the off side bank. Mine is connected , but never checked to see what it does!

Thanks for the response........ I will connect it and try to start the car and see what happens...it was just that the connectors looked like they had never been connected, and I cant remember but maybe they were. I will check the colours of the wires on the wiring diagram and try to see what it relates too...that may also give me an idea of what it is for. Thanks for confirming the black wire too.........

Hi Graham,
I can’t say 100% - but I think the black wire attached near the throttle bracket is the main earth for the ECU, (happy to be corrected on this one).
The single wire alongside the multi-connector is likly to be for the water temp sensor - this one is wired back to the temp gauge, not to be confused with the (white)engine temp sensor which feeds info to the ECU. The drawing says water gauge wire is a Rd/Wh; however my hand written notes say Bn/Wh on mine.?? but then I've discovered a number of spliced wires presumably from a body-off job some years ago..

Has your temp gauge worked previously? - connect up the spade connectors and remove the wire from the sensor and earth it to the engine block ; you should see a good reading on the temp gauge..
